Most people know something about the basics of Atkins by now.  You begin by eliminating carbohydrates almost entirely from your diet, which places your body into a state called “ketosis”.  You rely almost entirely on protein-based foods and supplements for your nutritional intake.  After the first, “Induction Phase” (14 days) you can add 5 more grams of carbohydrate per week, but they must be very controlled kinds of carbs: leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and berries.  No bread products, cereal, and certainly no sweets.
